Distressed Butterflies in not my usual style!

by | May 23, 2012

Wow, how lovely has today been? Only wish I hadn’t been cooped up in the office. Today I have a card that is not my usual style, i.e. clean and simple. I have gone all out with multiple layers, distressing, ribbon and embellishments. So what do you think?

The whole card started with my desire to have a go at making one of the rosettes I have seen in blogland. I had a 12″ strip of Chocolate Chip DSP in my ever growing scrap box and set to creating the rosette. With the new Simply Scored tool we now have – from the Summer Mini – creating these rosettes is super quick and easy. I used a small circle of very vanilla and one of the antique brads to finish it off. I love these brads and you can only see how gorgeous they are when you see them in real life.

The whole card just grew from there. I wanted to keep to neutral colours so chose a Chocolate Chip base and layered it up with Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake and First Edition Designer Papers. This is the first time I have used these and I love them!! They are such good value too with 24 sheets of 12″ double sided for £11.50. I distressed and inked up the edges with my sponge dauber.
The text on the paper is all about butterflies so I decided to add some stamped foliage from the Just Believe stamp set in Soft Suede and a few embossed butterflies from the oh-so gorgeous Mocha Morning designer papers.
I finished it off by placing the rosette on top of a Lace Ribbon border punched in Crumb Cake and adding a bow in the Chantilly crochet trim. The sentiment is from Petite Pairs and punched out with the Curly Label. Finished off with some more stamping from Just believe and bit of inking around the edges.

I did add a Very Vanilla square to the middle of the card with more stamping from Just Believe but forgot to take a photo. Oops.

Sorry for the long post but wanted to share how I made it. So what do you think?

I think the thing I love about this card is the use of the gorgeous Designer Papers and don’t forget if you want to get your hands on a little of all the papers from the main catalogue I still have 1 paper share left.

Hasta la próxima / until next time

Oh I love it, its so elegant and I wouldn’t have know it wasn’t “your thing” until you told us. The scoreboard is just fab for these rosettes isn’t it? My diagonal one came today so will be experimenting with that soon.
