Sponged backgrounds with Timeless Textures

by | Aug 24, 2021

Creating a sponged background is a simple way to add depth, interest and a touch of class to your card making. There are different ways you can create this effect – sponge daubers or blending brushes?

In the cards I am sharing today I created the sponged background with the Blending Brushes using the Timeless Texture Stamp set.

Sponged Background Card Tutorial

  • On a piece of Whisper White card stock measuring 9.5 x 13.9cm take the Blending Brush and create a banner of colour across the centre.
  • Stamp 2 flowers in Memento ink, colour with Misty Moonlight and Pool Party blends and then fussy cut out.
  • Stamp one of the sprigs and cut out
  • Stamp some of the fronds on to the sponged area and then layer the cut-out pieces on – add with Dimensionals for added depth.
  • Stamp the sentiment in Misty Moonlight ink
  • Finish off with some Basic Rhinestones – coloured with Misty Moonlight Blend pen to make them coordinate.

On the second card I created with the my Blending Brushes and Timeless textures I decided to add another level and create a Emboss Resist blended panel.

How do create a Sponged Background with Emboss Resist ?

Emboss resist is a simple but effective technique where you stamp and heat emboss the image in Clear or White embossing powder. Then you sponge over the embossed image and the image will resist the ink.

Sponged Background Emboss Resist Card

  • On a piece of Whisper White card stock measuring 9.5 x 13.9cm stamp the feather in a row down the centre in Versamark ink. Cover with White or Clear Emboss powder and set with Heat Tool.
  • Take the Blending Brush and sponge over the inked area with Fresh Freesia ink.Take a tissue and wipe off the excess ink off the embossed images.
  • Layer the stamped area on to a piece of Fresh Freesia card stock 10 x 14.4cm
  • Stamp the flower in Basic Grey ink and fussy cut out.
  • Stamp the sentiment in Basic Grey and die cut with the Tasteful Labels dies.
  • Add a piece of basic Grey cardstock 10 x 4cm
  • Layer the sentiment and flower onto the panel and add to a Thick A4
